Co-Pilot ❤️’s partnership

We’ve spent the past 20 years building relationships with road safety stakeholders from every sector. In doing so, we’ve learnt the enormous value of collaboration and sharing. No surprise, then, that these are two of Co-Pilot’s founding principles. We’re delighted to be affiliated with a growing number of organisations that represent the broadest spectrum of road user groups, each helping to ensure the Co-Pilot toolbox reflects the very best practice and latest research.

The British Horse Society are the UK’s largest equestrian charity, offering support to all those who work in the equine community. Road safety is a priority focus of BHS. In 2022, 68 horses were killed, and 125 were injured on the roads - with 139 people being hurt because of road incidents. Alan Hiscox has been the Director of Safety at BHS for over eight years, before which he served as the Met Polices’ Chief Equitation Officer. We’re grateful to the British Horse Society for helping ensure equestrian road users are appropriately represented in our materials.

Older motorists have a wealth of experience, confidence and tolerance. However, sight, hearing, reaction time and judgement of speed and distance may not be as sharp as it once was. The Older Drivers Forum offers advice and support to help people continue driving safely for longer and plan to hang up their keys at the right time. Rob Heard, a former Hampshire Constabulary Sergent, chairs the Older Drivers Forum. We’re delighted to have the support of a partner with so much experience and expertise working with older drivers to improve their safety.

We believe that legislation has a significant role to play in supporting the Vision Zero strategy and we are pleased to be a member of the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety. Co-Pilot’s COO, Simon Rewell, spent many years attending PACTS meetings in his capacity as Road Safety Manager for young driver telematics insurer insurethebox™️. Since Co-Pilot joined PACTS, Simon has been invited to sit on their Road User Behaviour Working Party.

The Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA) is the premier trade association for motorcycles, mopeds, and other powered three and light four-wheeled vehicles, commonly referred to as 'L-Category vehicles' or Powered Light Vehicles (PLVs). Representing over 90% of the industry's supply side, MCIA's membership encompasses manufacturers and importers of whole vehicles, accessories and components, and those providing associated services to the industry. Co-Pilot are delighted to be working with the MCIA to ensure our tools meet the needs of this vulnerable road user group.

For over 140 years, Cycling UK has campaigned to make cycling safe and accessible for everyone. Every year, thousands of people support their campaigns and together they achieve real change for cyclists. Cycling UK is committed to making our roads safer for all and improving access to the outdoors. We’re excited to be working with Cycling UK and their Head of Campaigns, Duncan Dollimore, to ensure Co-Pilot’s Vision Zero Toolkit properly represents best practise for cycle safety.

Project EDWARD (Every Day Without A Road Death) is the biggest platform for showcasing good practice in road safety in the UK. Since 2016, this award winning campaign has generated huge awareness around Vision Zero and Safe Systems through its innovative, media-savvy communications and annual tour of the UK. We’re delighted to announce our partnership with Project EDWARD and offer Co-Pilot’s support to James, Darren and their team.

TyreSafe has been at the forefront of promoting tyre safety and educating drivers on the importance of regular tyre maintenance. With the new partnership, they will leverage Co-Pilot's expertise in road safety campaigns and communication strategies to reach an even wider audience and reinforce the significance of proper tyre care.

Stuart Lovatt, TyreSafe Chair, said, "We are thrilled to join forces with Co-Pilot in our mission to make the UK's roads safer. By working together, we can amplify our message and ensure that every driver understands the importance of proper tyre care. This collaboration will enable us to reach a broader audience, driving positive behaviour change and ultimately reducing accidents caused by unsafe tyres."

When Co-Pilot’s founder, James Evans, started his career in road safety 20 years ago, RoadSafe were one of the first organisations he approached for guidance. Over the past two decades, Adrian Walsh and his team have been great mentors, so it’s particularly fitting that RoadSafe has joined Co-Pilot’s Board of Strategic Partners. As champions of partnership working and the Safe System approach to road safety, we are excited to be working so closely with another organisation that mirror our values.

Keeping children safe is one of our most basic instincts. Whether they are walking, cycling, scooting or travelling in a vehicle, Co-Pilot is committed to helping protect the next generation. The rules, regulations and fitting instructions for child seats can be hard to navigate, so we’re delighted to have formed a partnership with Child Seat Safety Ltd. Julie and Claire’s pedigree in the road safety profession means they really understand Co-Pilot’s role in developing a toolkit shared education, training and publicity materials. We have already begun work on new resources together and Child Seat Safety have ensured that our stock photo and video library contains a range of high-quality visuals that can be used to promote the safe use of child seats.

Ready to Pass? is the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) campaign to support learner drivers to check they’re ready to pass their driving test. They provide provisional licence drivers with the opportunity to learn vital skills, manage nerves and take mock tests so that they are better equipped to pass their driving test. Working more closely with the DVSA will enable Co-Pilot to understand the changing needs of new drivers and create the most effective tools for road safety professionals to deliver.

Chaired by Heidi Duffy MBE, the National Young Rider Forum (NYRF) brings together road safety professionals, industry bodies and stakeholders to give young riders access to the best information and advice to help them stay safe on two wheels.

Predominantly found on twist-and-go go style powered two wheelers up 125cc, young riders under the age of 25 are one of the most vulnerable road user groups. NYRF’s goal is to reduce the number of collisions involving young riders by working with members to develop campaigns and communications promoting safe riding.

The British Motorcyclists Federation (BMF) exists to safeguard the rights of all British motorcyclists.

The BMF is a long established and effective lobbying group. It protects UK motorcyclists from interference by European, National, Local Government and anti-motorcycling campaign groups. The BMF is a member of many government advisory groups and also works in Europe on behalf of British motorcyclists. The BMF is also a fantastic community, made up of individual members and motorcycle clubs, it provides support, advice and organises excellent events throughout the UK.

The BMF is one of the largest rider groups in the world and has existed since the 1960s. They are a non-profit organisation run by elected volunteers, providing motorcyclists with a voice through specialist lobbyists and a network of volunteers across the UK. The BMF successfully campaigns on issues that directly affect the liberty, safety and security of motorcyclists.
