From seatbelts to smartphones - how far we’ve come

We recently filmed a short video taking a creative journey back through the decades to explore some of the changes to our road traffic laws that we now take for granted:

  • 1960s - Introduction of drink driving laws

  • 1980s - When seatbelts were made compulsory

  • Early 2000s - The introduction of mobile phone legislation

  • Late 2000s - When child car seats became compulsory

Complete with vehicles and music from each era, the film shows just how far we’ve come - but there’s still a long way to go before we reach zero deaths and serious injuries on our roads.

This latest film builds on the success of our fully-evaluated and award-winning Highway Code ad feqaturing actor, Martin Clunes, which is exclusively available for Co-Pilot members here.

A huge thank you to all our Vision Zero Toolbox members who contributed ideas, scripts and storyboards through our working group meetings.
