Warwickshire on the value of evidence, collaboration and shared resources
This month’s Vision Zero Voices shines a spotlight on Fay Cannon, Warwickshire Road Safety Manager, and Kate Castle, Senior Road Safety Officer - passionate road safety professionals and active members of the Co-Pilot Vision Zero Toolbox & Community, who are using evidence-led approaches to strengthen road safety education and engagement in Warwickshire.
Fay and Kate shared their experiences of how being part of a collaborative, evidence-led community has helped shape road safety interventions in Warwickshire.
Has the Community or Toolbox supported your work or thinking in any way?
“The Vision Zero Toolbox has increased Warwickshire’s access to high-quality, evidence-led resources, enabling us to extend our educational offering across all road user groups and engage wider audiences through different channels.
“The toolbox has enabled us to develop new resources that strengthen our existing road safety messaging. For example, we identified a gap in public knowledge and an opportunity to raise awareness of the 2022 changes to the Highway Code.
“By working collaboratively with the Co-Pilot team, a high-quality video was produced, underpinned by research and evaluation - an outcome that would not have been achievable or affordable within our own resources.
“This resource has enabled consistent, high-quality messaging across authorities and partnerships.”
Have you found particular tools, discussions or connections especially helpful?
“Discussions around the behaviour change interventions plan, which underpin each intervention, have been extremely valuable for us in Warwickshire.
“Developing a secure understanding of how to incorporate the Behaviour Change Wheel into intervention planning has enabled us to apply this learning to other projects, such as our young driver webinar.
“This has allowed us to evaluate our projects more effectively.”
Thank you to Fay and Kate for sharing their insights and for the important work they continue to deliver to improve road safety in Warwickshire.
