AutoNinja - vehicle checks
Telling drivers to check their vehicle is easy. Getting them to keep doing it is the hard part. AutoNinja is the same short set of checks, done the same way once a month, with QR codes to films showing exactly how - from tyre tread to oil level. After a few months it is a habit.
What it is
The checks are always the same, in the same order, so drivers do not have to work out what to look at each time. Each one gets a green or red tick, and the red-tick action list turns a problem into a job: book a service, replace the tyre.
There are two editions. The car edition is for private motorists and young drivers. The van edition adds the checks a light commercial vehicle needs - load, tyres under weight, lights and mirrors - and works well for fleet inductions and toolbox talks.
The best place to hand it out is the garage. Drivers are most receptive to vehicle safety messages when they have just paid for repairs, so MOT centres and service providers are the natural partners.

Capability, opportunity, motivation
Poor maintenance is a known contributory factor in collisions. Using COM-B the checklist provides capability (how-to films), opportunity (a monthly prompt) and motivation (an action list that turns a red tick into a job done).
